RVG VINCENT VAN GOGH

It's not too often we get to compare something new with the legend that is Patti Smith, however, 'Vincent Van Gogh', the latest offering from rising Australian outfit RVG, is a spiky interpretation of jangle pop, defined by head-honcho Romy Vager's exquisite vocals, which can only be compared to the godmother of punk herself. The retro influences don't end there, channelling the washy indie-rock of fellow Aussie legends The Go-Betweens as the track's carefully strummed chords glide expertly in the background beneath reverb-heavy almost Dire Straits-esque guitar flourishes. Whilst 'Vincent Van Gogh' is steeped in nostalgia, RVG's brutally honest lyrics are both refreshing and bang up to date, making for one of the most interesting listens we've heard in a while. RVG headline London's Shacklewell Arms on the 9th of July. Get yourself down there. -Holly Mullineaux
